Independent Recognition and School Inspections
Devonshire House is inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), which reports to the Department for Education on the extent to which the statutory Independent School Standards are met. Our most recent full inspection took place from 19 to 21 March 2024.
The inspection found that all the relevant Standards are met across every area assessed: leadership and management and governance; the quality of education, training and recreation; pupils’ physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing; pupils’ social and economic education and contribution to society; and safeguarding.
Inspectors were positive about the culture at the School, noting in their summary that:
“Leaders actively promote pupils’ wellbeing and place their needs at the heart of the School.”
– Independent Schools Inspectorate, March 2024
- Pupils are motivated to learn thanks to enthusiastic, knowledgeable teaching in most lessons.
- A strong safeguarding culture exists, characterised by high levels of vigilance.
- The curriculum is broad and balanced, enhanced by a varied programme of extra-curricular activities, educational visits and guest speakers.
This is the third consecutive positive outcome for the School, following previous ISI inspections in 2019 and 2016. Full copies of all three reports are available on our Policies, Reports and Inspections page.

What Parents Say About Devonshire House
Families joining us from overseas often speak about how quickly they felt part of the community. Mrs Heyn, a Devonshire House parent who relocated from Sweden, shared her experience:
Preparing Pupils for Future Success
Our pupils move on to a wide range of leading senior schools, including South Hampstead High School, University College School (UCS), Highgate, St Paul’s School, Channing, Francis Holland, Merchant Taylors’ School, Wetherby Senior, Mill Hill School, Westminster, North London Collegiate School and the Haberdashers’ Schools.
As part of Dukes Education, we also offer a guaranteed entry policy to Dukes Education senior schools, subject to availability and fit, along with the option of early acceptance from Year 5 for families who choose not to sit the 11+ or 13+.
Recent academic results reflect this trajectory from the earliest years: in our latest Lower School outcomes, 60% of Reception pupils exceed age-related expectations in reading, and nearly 50% of Year 1 pupils achieve Greater Depth in spelling – meaning they are performing among the highest 20% of pupils nationally.
