Why Families Choose Devonshire House School

A few key facts sum up why so many North London families choose us:

  • Academic excellence: In our latest Lower School results, over 80% of Reception pupils are working above the expected level in mathematics, and more than 40% of Year 1 pupils have achieved Greater Depth in maths.
  • Individual pastoral care: our March 2024 ISI inspection confirmed that pupils’ wellbeing is actively promoted and placed at the heart of the School.
  • Outstanding enrichment: from a Forest School and STEM to the arts and an official coaching partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
  • Central London location: set across Victorian houses in Hampstead, five minutes’ walk from Hampstead Underground station.
  • Strong community: around 30% of our pupils join us from overseas, from more than 50 countries worldwide.
  • Exceptional pupil outcomes: consistent progression to a wide range of leading senior schools each year.

Independent Recognition and School Inspections

Devonshire House is inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), which reports to the Department for Education on the extent to which the statutory Independent School Standards are met. Our most recent full inspection took place from 19 to 21 March 2024.

The inspection found that all the relevant Standards are met across every area assessed: leadership and management and governance; the quality of education, training and recreation; pupils’ physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing; pupils’ social and economic education and contribution to society; and safeguarding.

Inspectors were positive about the culture at the School, noting in their summary that:

“Leaders actively promote pupils’ wellbeing and place their needs at the heart of the School.”

– Independent Schools Inspectorate, March 2024

  • Pupils are motivated to learn thanks to enthusiastic, knowledgeable teaching in most lessons.
  • A strong safeguarding culture exists, characterised by high levels of vigilance.
  • The curriculum is broad and balanced, enhanced by a varied programme of extra-curricular activities, educational visits and guest speakers.

This is the third consecutive positive outcome for the School, following previous ISI inspections in 2019 and 2016. Full copies of all three reports are available on our Policies, Reports and Inspections page.
