Growing in the Nursery Garden

Growing Together at Devonshire House: Community, Learning, and Development

At Devonshire House, a leading prep school in NW3, we believe that education is about more than academic success – it’s about nurturing the whole child, supporting families, and giving back to the wider community. Recent projects across the school highlight how we continue to grow in multiple areas, from developing innovative learning practices and spaces in our Hampstead Nursery School to strengthening community partnerships with local charities.

Supporting Families: The Nursery Family Corner

Parents of our youngest pupils in the Acorns Nursery can benefit from the creation of a Family Corner – a lending library designed to support parents and carers. Stocked with books and articles on topics such as behaviour, sleep routines, and toilet training, it also explores broader themes including neurodiversity and cultural differences in parenting. Families are encouraged to borrow resources or share feedback, helping us to build strong home–school partnerships. This initiative reflects our ethos as an independent school in North London: supporting not only the children but also the families who guide them.

A Natural Space for Growth: The Mini Forest Garden

TogetherOur Nursery playground is being transformed with the creation of a Mini Forest Garden. From freshly planted shrubs and flowers to spongy bark flooring and a living Willow Dome, the garden provides a dynamic outdoor learning space for exploration and play. The project has already involved pupils directly, with children planting spring bulbs alongside specialists from Plant Environment. This development not only enhances our early years provision but also reinforces our reputation as one of the best nursery schools in Hampstead for blending creativity and nature through child-led and play-based learning.

Giving Back: Supporting Camden Food BankTogether

Beyond the classroom, pupils across the school have shown outstanding commitment to helping others. From food collections at our Harvest Festival to toy donations at Christmas and sponsored walks in the summer, our community has rallied together to support Camden Food Bank. These initiatives highlight the values that underpin life at Devonshire House: kindness, compassion, and responsibility.

A Community That Cares

Whether it’s through exciting developments in our Nursery School or through charitable efforts that extend beyond our walls, Devonshire House remains committed to helping every child grow into a confident, thoughtful, and caring individual.

As an independent school in Hampstead, we are proud to demonstrate that learning, development, and community action all go hand in hand. Together, our families, staff, and pupils continue to show that small acts – whether planting a bulb, borrowing a book, or donating food – can have a lasting impact.
