Devonshire House School’s Ongoing Support for Camden Food Bank

At Devonshire House, a leading prep school in Hampstead, giving back to the community isn’t just an occasional gesture – it’s a year-round commitment. Over the past two years, pupils, staff, and families have joined forces to support Camden Food Bank, providing essential help to local families who are struggling with the rising cost of living.

Putting Learning into Action

In February 2025, Year 5 pupils took their Religious Education lessons beyond the classroom. Having explored how different faiths value charity and compassion – from the Islamic principle of Zakat to the Christian tradition of giving – the children decided to put their learning into practice. Each pupil brought in a food donation during Friday’s assembly, directly supporting Camden Food Bank’s mission to help local families in need.

An Easter of Generosity

In April 2025, our Special Easter Assembly reflected not only on the Resurrection of Jesus as a cornerstone of Christian faith but also on the importance of hope and kindness in action. Alongside the celebrations, a large collection for Camden Food Bank was organised, ensuring that more families could enjoy a special treat during difficult times. As the Food Bank reminded us, even something as small as a bar of chocolate can bring joy to a child who might otherwise go without.

Walking for a Cause

June 2024 saw Year 1 and Year 8 pupils join forces for a sponsored walk on one of the hottest days of the year. The event was as heartwarming as it was fundraising-focused – older pupils guided their younger peers, shared encouragement, and even swapped jokes along the way. Donations from the walk helped fund food and toiletries for those in urgent need, with £40 covering essentials for a family for three days.

Christmas Kindness

In December 2024, our toy collection for Camden Food Bank brought festive cheer to hundreds of children. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, nearly 450 toys were donated – a figure that left Jackie, the Food Bank manager, overwhelmed and deeply grateful.

Harvest of Giving

Back in October 2023, our Harvest Festival inspired a week-long donation drive for Camden Food Bank. Families across Devonshire contributed essential food items, supporting those most in need in our borough.

A Community That Cares

These efforts reflect a shared belief that compassion is at the heart of a strong community. Whether it’s walking in the summer heat, collecting toys at Christmas, or donating during assemblies, the Devonshire community continues to show that small acts of kindness can have a big impact.

As an independent school in North London, Devonshire is proud to weave values of empathy and generosity into school life. Supporting local charities like Camden Food Bank is just one way we help pupils learn that education extends far beyond the classroom.

Camden Food Bank and the staff at Devonshire extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated time, items, or money. Your generosity has brought hope, comfort, and joy to many – and proves that together, we can make a real difference.
