Literacy and Numeracy are very important in a child's first years, and English and mathematics continue as mainstream subjects as children progress through the school.

In Pre Reception and Reception children also learn about the world around them. Their day consists of a mixture of formal lesons and learning through play. They have a form teacher and a classroom assistant who guide them through the curriculum. They also have specialist teachers in Music, Games and French.

From Year 1, the principal areas of the national Curriculum are covered, although subjects may be taken at a higher level, or at a quicker pace. Although all children have a form teacher, as they grow older an increasing amount of the curriclum is delivered by subject specilaists.  The combined sciences form an increasingly important part of the timetable as children mature. The use of computers is introduced at an early age, both as its own skill and as an integral part of the pupils education.

French is taught informally from Pre Reception, with written French introduced in Year 4. Latin starts in Year 5.

For girls approaching the eleven plus senior schools' entry examinations, special emphasis is given to the requirements for these, and in the top two years for boys, the Common Entrance syllabus is followed. The pupils achieve great success in these examinations and a number sit successfully for senior school scholarships.
